Just Entering the City on U.S. Hwy. 17, Northbound
The narrow bridge has a hill in the middle (to allow boats to pass under). The speed limit is 35 southbound, but 45 northbound. Just as you crest the hill (running 45-50), there’s a sign that is invisible until you crest the hill. That sign says Speed Limit: 30. Cops sit in the parking lot at the end of the bridge, knowing you can’t drop from 45 to 30 in the few feet you have before you pass the sign.

I agree with the person who said entering Darien from the south side traveling north on U. S. Hwy 17 coming over the bridge over the Darien River, the speed limit quickly drops from 50 to 35 mph. Every male member of my family has recieved a ticket in Darien. It is usually about $ 100.
goiing north on us-17. speed signs go from 55 to 45 to 35, before you cross darien river bridge.
Not sure when the above was posted, but they are no longer correct. Coming north from Brunswick, the speed limit is 55 until approximately 100 yds from Darien bridge and drops to 45 and withing 50 yds of bridge, drops to 35 all the way through the city limits and goes up to 45 until you plass Blounts Crossing where it once again raises to 55. From North to south, the speed limit through the CITY limits is still 35 until you go over the Darien bridge where it is 45 until you reach the 55 MPH sign. If you can't pay the fine, "DON'T SPEED" !!!!!!! The two comments on the main Darien page dealing with hwy 95 are two cases of SOUR GRAPES from two people who were most likely doing 75 in a 60 mile zone. If they were speeding, they should pay for what they done.
I have lived in Darien for 7 yrs...Going north on us17 was at one time 55 45 30 but it hasn't been that way for around 6yrs. The city of darien purchased new cars to raise money yes that is true howwever the city police spend most of the time either eating or sitting on I 95
