La Brea Avenue near Stocker Street

Los Angeles, CaliforniaJun 22, 20071 Comments

There is a long, fast downhill stretch on La Brea between Stocker Street and Rodeo Road that winds between the hills. I’ve seen a single cop with a radar gun and a radio picking off speeders as they flew down that hill. He radioed ahead to a small army of patrol cars at a roadblock a quarter of a mile beyond, hidden by the curve of the road. They must have had a dozen cars stopped for citations. Fortunately for me, I was driving _up_ the hill!

Comments:
They also get you on the uphill side of La Brea (southbound), as well. The street curves as you go uphill, so you can't really see around the bend. Motorcycle cops hide just around the bend, on sidestreets, park maintenance entries, driveways, etc. and nail people all the time. They also have a flashing automated sign that announces your speed as you're coming downhill.
