Lake Mead Parkway near Golda Street

Henderson, NevadaAug 12, 20070 Comments

Motorcycle officer(s)posted on median at westbound rise of hill. Can’t be seen until it’s too late to slow down. This is a state highway leading in and out of Lake Mead, a major recreation area. Posted limit is 55, but safe traffic flow is usually 75 to 80 on weekdays because it’s a rural, isolated area. Most weekday traffic is by commuters who live at Lake Las Vegas and head west to go to work. Like most highways in southern Nevada, traveling at 55 is more hazardous than 70, which is far more realistic. It may be suburban legend, but it’s a widely held local belief that the City of Henderson relies on traffic fines for revenue.
