Lott, TX HWY 77

Lott, TexasFeb 13, 20123 Comments

The speed limit is 70 then drops to 55 abruptly. Some where after that the limit drops to 45 according to the officer who stopped me. The offer was facing east and west and stopped for speeding north and south on 77. The officer took several minutes to approach my vehicle and aske why i was speeding. I informed him the last spped limit sign saw was 55 mph before town. He informed me there is a 1000 yards of 45 mph speed limit after the 55 mph sign. I told him i must have missed it with all the street signs and Hwy 77 signs all over. The officer said he would be right back with me. About 5 minutes later the officer came back and gave me a ticket for speeding 60 in a 45 and asked if I had any questions. As I drove off I noticed a 70 mph speed limit sign going south so why is there 3 different speed zones within a mile of each other in both directions. After reading other posts about Lott, TX I see why it is a speed trap now. Also wondering why my ticket says I was exeding the posted speed limit for the type and make of vehicle (I was in a Chevy Tahoe pulling a small cargo trailer). The office also did not indicate wether he was using stationary radar or moving radar.

Comments:
This is exactly what happened to me! The officer was somewhat of a smart---s when I questioned the change in speed zones and how much the ticket was ($197). He was hidden between buildings and followed me to the other end of town before turning on his lights. There was no need to try to fight the ticket as the judge you appear before is his boss!

The same thing happened to me this past weekend. Same spot (77 at 320) I've been through there before on they to visit my daughter at Blinn college. I received a warning ticket in Cameron so I knew to watch my speed once I exited off of I-35. I had come through the same stretch of highway that you mentioned and noticed the speed limit going from 70 to 60 to 55. At least there were waring signs letting you know each time the speed limit was about to decrease. Except for the mysterious 45 mph speed limit. On the way back home the next day, I noticed the same policy office had stopped another vehicle in the same vicinity. I looked for the 45 mph sign, but never saw it. I even told the office that I never saw the sigh and I got the same story. Next time I go go see my daughter, I will definitely look for that 45 mph sign. In the meantime, be careful going through Lott TX. There are a lot of speed limit changes on that stretch of highway, but at least most of the towns warn you of upcoming speed changes. Further investigation may be in order here.

The same thing happened to me. Driving South on 77. Texas has changed "reduced speed ahead" sign to yellow diamond signs with the new speed limit on them as a caution for upcoming speed reduction. Must be for all the illegals who no comprende englais. Officer was sitting around a bend in the road and after he stopped me asked me if I had seen the yellow warning sign or the new speed limit sign. Basically 70 in a 55. Speed drops very abruptly and they are trying to catch the unwary. Be careful or totally avoid this place if possible.
