Moorcroft Wyoming

Moorcroft, WyomingMar 27, 20123 Comments

Coming from Hulett Wyoming, turned onto 90 West directly into Moocroft, winds at 65 mph and some rain so I was going slow. I was looking for signs for speed limit and trying to watch the road, it is so bad there are no lines visible. I know I was going 30-35. Finally leaving town and speeding up saw sign for 40 at the other end of town and looked down and was going exactly 40. Cop pulls me over and tells me I was going ten miles over. Then writes me up for 16 miles over!. What a liar, he saw out of town plates and got off on writing me up. Dead town, no income, who would stop there unless getting pulled over!

Comments:
Just because you can see the sign doesn't mean thats how fast you can go until you GET to the sign. You were in a 30 mph zone, so by your own admission you were speeding.

This town is without any debate one of those low populated communities that survives by utilizing their police department as revenue agents. Instead of "Protect and Serve" their moto should be "Harass and Extort" If you are coming in from Devil's Tower to catch I 90 BEWARE. I got a ticket decelerating from 70 to 30. Shortly there after I had tire problems with my rental car in Gillette and while waiting at 2 different repair places I engaged with the 18 local residents. EACH AND EVERY one of them had their own outrageous storie's to relate over Moorcroft''s speedtraps. 2 that stood out, a woman named Mandy told me of her father who was the driver of the handicapped school bus. He received a ticket for going 22mph in a 20. Just absurd. Then a man named Rock related his story of how he was ticketed when one of Moorcroft's "Revenue Agents" cited him for going 4 miles over in a 30mph zone and get this, the officer stated he EYEBALLS him doing 4 miles over!!!!! He did fight it and it was dismissed. What a disgrace to law enforcement this town is. Extorting money from people when the country is suffering under the Covid-19 pandemic is beyond despicable, it's criminal.

This report in the local paper says all you need to know "The Moorcroft Police Department has already surpassed last year’s money taken in from fines and forfeitures." “So I anticipate by the end of this fiscal year, we’ll have taken in close to $50,000 for the town,” reported Lundborg. “So while we’re not doing it for this, we are putting it back into the budget" That's EXACTLY why they are doing this. Such a deplorable town
