On Texas Rt. 36

After driving for miles at 60 plus, trying to avoid a back-up on I-10, they have a crossroad that they think warrants a speed limit of 35! It’s nuts. I got my first ticket in nearly 40 years with my foot on the brake and was told I was 16 over the limit at 51 so they could charge a higher fine of $202! I doubt it was over 50. They still have banditos in Texas, they are disguised as cops! What a punk. I will NEVER drive the back roads of Texas again. I’ll stay in Florida!

The exact same thing happened to me! I was traveling east on SH36. The speed limit coming into town is 60 MPH. I had a vehicle following very closely behind me so I couldn't brake when I suddenly saw the 35 MPH speed limit. I was already slowing because I was entering the town. A Wallis police officer stopped me for going 45 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Crazy... No way could I have slowed to 35 MPH after going 60 MPH especially with a car following so close to my back bumper!

The 35 MPH speed zone in Wallis Texas is not a speed trap. It is a small town yes... that is approx. 4 miles long - yes... has several warning signs about the speed reduction as Hwy 36 is our main street in town, a street where people walk, children cross to go to the local stores. Wallis has already seen more than it's fair share of traffic fatalities including a large truck speeding and driving onto the sidewalk and decapitated a prominent business woman, a van speeding and turning in the path of a motorcyclist killing him instantly. The residents have seen many motorist that may have been you to use Hwy 36 as a short cut between Hwy 59 and I-10 speeding along at 65 and 70 MPH only slowing to 60 MPH in town, some causing accidents. The tax paying residents asked for that reduction in speed. The lives that are saved are precious to us. So we are not sorry for asking you to slow down in this small town, as I am sure you would appreciate us not speeding down your street. Take a breath. Relax. Drive Safe. Your family and our residents will be glad that we all are alive.
