On Hwy 36 in Wallis city limits

Wallis, TexasAug 24, 20180 Comments

Hwy 36 is a fairly straight hwy between Richmond and Sealy, Texas. Speeds after Richmond gets up to 70mph. Once you hit the Wallis city limits, you will need to slow down to 45 then immediately to 35mph. Speed limit on Hwy 36 (4 lanes wide) through the center of town is at 35mph. There are no stop lights, and a Railroad hugging the right side so there are only a couple of cross traffic roads. This town has been known for decades to be a speed trap so I am surprised it isn’t already listed on here. 35 mph is too slow for that location. Slow down to 35 through there or you will get stopped.

I-10

Driving I-10 at 7am on a Sunday, posted speed limit 75. I was driving around 80(rental car has a governor) Cop was driving on Frontage Rd(side rd) coming towards me, tickets me for going 87. Officer told me it was a dangerous rd on Sundays….strait rd and light traffic!?!
Ticket took less than 5 minutes to pull me over, print ticket, and send me on my way. He was in a hurry to get another one…over the hill 5-8 more cops with cars pulled over. No more visits to San Antonio! Thanks Texas!!

On Texas Rt. 36

After driving for miles at 60 plus, trying to avoid a back-up on I-10, they have a crossroad that they think warrants a speed limit of 35! It’s nuts. I got my first ticket in nearly 40 years with my foot on the brake and was told I was 16 over the limit at 51 so they could charge a higher fine of $202! I doubt it was over 50. They still have banditos in Texas, they are disguised as cops! What a punk. I will NEVER drive the back roads of Texas again. I’ll stay in Florida!

Texas Highway 36

Speed trap run by local PD in slick top Chargers. Speed limits drop rapidly in town. Officer who wrote me told me it was changed to a warning but still shows to be a ticket through their municipal court. Did not supply me with any information about the court or how to handle the ticket. They do have electronic devices to print the tickets. That alone should be evidence that they’re doing plenty of “business” writing the tickets.

The city of Wallis now has a dark colored Dodge Charger and as SUV (both slicktops).. now why does a small town need this? You tell me.
