overpass on HW 377
The speed limit is 35. The fine is $140+ for speeds over 10% of this. If your speed is 39 that’s a big fine! Sometimes two patrol cars working this section. Big cash cow for the city of Brownwood as there is the hospital, many doctor’s offices and 3 manufacturing plants a little futher south.

This is not really a speed trap. I have lived in Brownwood all of my life (except for college and working in other Texas cities for about 8 years. This overpass is relatively recent and it starts at a is 35 mph as one approaches the overpass. Then the overpass is a fairly bold curve to the left and the speed limit goes up to 40 just a short distance past the end of the overpass if one is going North to South so anyone that can not control their speed on the overpass is a danger! Coming from the South to the North the speed limit is 40 mph quite some while before reaching the overpass AND as one starts up the overpass there is a sign showing a pretty sharp curve to the right AND 35 mph coming up and then the 35 mph speed sign at about the top of the overpass and it stays 35 for a good 1/4 mile approaching Howard Payne University's campus and then drops to 30.
This is NOT a speed trap----it is a common sense area that really needs cautious driving both directions until off of the overpass.
