Penrod Road Road near State Route US 260

Show Low, ArizonaSep 28, 20071 Comments

Penrod Road is a rural county road between the towns of Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside in the White Mountains of east-central Arizona. It is used by motorists to by-pass the congested State Highway 260. A county traffic engineering study determined that 55 m.p.h. was a reasonable and prudent speed for Penrod Road but political pressure was applied and the speed limit was set at 45 m.p.h. Radar is used by police from three jurisdictions: Navajo County Sheriff, Pinetop-Lakeside Police, and Show Low Police. Traffic flow is 55 to 60 m.p.h. because the road is rural with no intersections, no businesses, or residences.

Comments:
Penrod Road is no longer a County Road, It was annexed into Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside several years ago, except for a small portion near Porter Mountain Road. The reasonable and prudent speed law for Arizona will prevail if you contest a ticket here. The 45 mph speed limit is arbitrary (done many years ago by the county) and will not hold up if contested. The City of Show Low has NOT conducted a speed study since annextion.
