River Road

River Road in or near the River Road School. Nearly every AM, 2 Motorcycle Officers sitting just South of the School zone, and nabbing those who exceed the posted School Zone speed of 25 mph. The two crossing guards are truly showboaters, but I also agree they do a great job. They irritate me every time I go through that school zone, but due to the nature of the area, drivers would never slow down or exercise caution without those two old showboaters. And God help the parents who are trying to pull out of the school roadway and turn left without help.

Comments:
This is not a speed trap, but a means to slow traffic going through a school zone. While the speed limit is already 40MPH, the average car goes 45-50MPH. We need a traffic light north of the school, at 54th or where JR Allen comes into River Rd. Approx. 1982, I wrote a letter to the chief of police, at that time, asking that River Rd be monitored. He answered my letter, stating that 81 citations had been issued within a 21 day period (Bradley Park to 45th Street). That was 25+ years ago. The traffic is much heavier and cars continue to speed on this area of River Road. The school crossing guards do as good a job as they can, risking their lives with these speeders. I say give tickets as much as possible. When you get into someone's pocketbook and cause car insurance to go up, it will make them take notice of their breaking the law.
