Satinwood, between the hospital and Walnut
Motorcycle officers were hiding behind a parked car on a dry, sunny afternoon in July 2003. I was on a small motorcycle, accelerating after turning left onto Satinwood from the stop sign at Elk after a doctors appt. That part of the street goes downhill. The officer volunteered that they were there because of homeowner complaints of speeders. "I would have let you off with a warning," he told me, "if only you hadn’t shifted into 3rd!" According to the manual, my 250cc motorcycle can shift into third at 15 mph. I might have been speeding, but I am not sure because I was only in third (of 6 gears), had just turned the corner, and usually feel unsafe looking at gauges right away (accelerate to what feels reasonable, check gauges, adjust if indicated.) Here are my questions: 1) If so many people drive faster than 25 there, then shouldn’t the speed study (required to use radar, I am told) have indicated a higher limit than 25? 2) How can I get my hands on the speed study? 3) For radar to be used, is it true that the study had to have been done using the downhill traffic on a dry afternoon? 4) Is there reason to believe that radar may be less accurate for a small motorcycle with a shiny black fairing?
