Schafer Road near Jefferson Avenue

River Rouge, MichiganAug 01, 20072 Comments

Anyone turning left from Jefferson Ave onto Schafer Road had better keep BELOW the limits until they get past the viaducts leading out of River Rouge and into Detroit. The police station is near, and the jr/sr high school is just beyond that, and they will claim you are speeding at random. Then they "allow" you to get a no-points "impeding traffic" violation in court for which you’ll pay $150 bucks. If you contest the speeding ticket, you get the points AND the fine!

Same thing happened to me in April 2012. River Rouge police travel in unmarked black cars that look like "ghetto" cars, with dark tinted windows and "suped" up grills. When they pull you over, the cars have a revolving light system embedded in the windshield that again, look very urban. I was pulled over in this very same spot which is a heavy traffic road and no evidence of a school or 25 mph sign. I was traveling the rate of traffic. The car followed me for about 1.5 miles, as my speed varied until I must have gotten into one of these low zone areas. Like the above, the officer gave me the same recitation that if I plead guilty, and write a letter to the court and send in the $150 fine, I will get off at "0" points. I was also driving a rental that unknown to me at the time, had out of state plates.

Yeah just curious has anyone else been pulled over for no seatbelt there but did in fact have their seatbelt on I was pulled over there and gave a warning for no seatbelt but got a Nother ticket for a minor infraction not having proof of insurance but I did have insurance just didn't give me enough time to dig it out. When I got home a friend across the street said he was pulled over for no seatbelt and had his on to. Later that day I seen a Facebook post the same thing happened to yet another person and they said they had their seatbelt on as well. Seemed really fishy to me
