SE 8th Street near 140th and the Connector

Often (Especially when Lake Hills Elementry School is getting out, but also on weekends) there will be both cars and motercycles checking speed from driveways and streets along SE8th. Usually on the side of the street across from the school.

Comments:
I was stopped on a summer morning (no summer school) for doing 30+ in a 20 (school zone) by radar even though 1) The posted limit on the pavement is 25, 2) the variable speed limit sign read 25 and 3) the cop's radar gun was holstered on his motorcycle. He simply walked out into the street and waved me over. I had slowed earlier for a turning car and was doing nowhere near 30MPH when I was in the school zone. After the cop wrote the citation, and refused to explain how he could use his radar gun when he was standing 10 yards from it, I immediately went back home grabbed my camera and returned to the site, and photographed everything. Although the cop was gone when I returned, I was able to capture photos of the speed sign reading 25, not 20, the speed limit posted on the roads and another fixed 25MPH sign to convince the judge that a reasonable person would conclude the speed limit was 25, and therefore the ticket was factually in error. I had also subpoenaed the officer to testify that he had used his radar gun on my car as indicated on the ticket, and he no-showed, as that would have required him to perjure himself. I used both to help get the ticked dismissed. When the ticket is righteous, pay it, or use whatever means you have to mitigate it, but when the ticket is BS, document everything and fight it.
