State Highway 101 near all through town

Port Orford, OregonOct 09, 20084 Comments

Most trips through town will pass at least one patrol car, often parked inconspicuously or screened by a building. Enforcement is relentless in the school zone. Also beware of pedestrian "traps" and seat belts. The town supports itself in part by ticket revenue. Port Orford is widely known as the worst speed trap on the southern Oregon Coast.

Comments:
The previous Police Chief has been removed and a new Police Chief has taken over. Much more professional and the number of citations has fallen dramatically.

Port Orford is notorious! Everyone who lives within 75 miles in either direction knows this.. We were talking about it in the car and I was a block from the 45 sign and started to pick it up and a cop gunned me comin' at me and got me for 47 in a 35. Cost me $195.

First traffic citation in 25 years right here today. Definition of a speed trap. I've been pulling over and letting people pass me all day, but didn't see the sign I guess. This supposed town can't have more than a population of a couple hundred, so rather than make an attraction to get people to stop and support the town, they just put up a speed trap and hire some douchbag cop to enforce it. Really a crappy way to make money for your crummy wannabe town, screw over someone's driving record under the false pretences of traffic safety. Short cop with the crew cut must have loved seeing my California plates -- easy win and literal highway robbery. Would expect this sort of thing in Mexico but I guess we have thieves with badges here too. Port Orford can suck it!

I decided to do a google search for "Port Orford spee" that's as far as I got when it populated the rest for "speed trap," and I found myself here. My first speeding ticket was when I started driving as a teenager. My second is at 48-years-old, starting off my "Total Eclipse of the Sun" vacation in Oregon. As the poster above me said: Port Orford can suck it! The state of Oregon should do something about this town because I'm never going to give it tourism dollars ever again with a welcome to their state like I got.
