State Highway 191 near Mile Marker 153

Jackson Hole, WyomingJan 20, 20063 Comments

I have lived in Jackson Hole for 6 years and have not received any tickets but have had 3 verbal warnings for not totally stopping at our many in-town 4-way stops. This post is for all tourists heading our way. WHP patrols Hwy 191 through town and loves to ticket speeders, especially those with out of state tags. WHP also likes to make stops for cracked windshield, headlight out and expired registration. If you drive here, you must drive to protect your record, it is definitly a police town: fed, state, county and local. How do I know? I keep a scanner on at home. They are rabid about DUI — don’t even think about it. All town officers have cameras in their vehicles. Beware.

Comments:
This could be the dumbest post I have seen on this site. Are you complaining because the police officers are doing their jobs? DUI busts are big in Jackson because people drink and drive. The police are attempting to make it a safter place to be on the streets for everyone else. You should drink and drive period! If you do I hope that one of the police officers catch you! If you have gotten 3 verbal warnings for the same thing....you need to be a faster learner! It is a stop sign...you must stop...not just pause! Cracked windshields, headlight out and expired registrations are all infractions of the Wyoming (not to mention many other states) statutes. Police are supposed to ticket you for such things. If you have a problem with the WHP or any other law enforcement agency around Jackson...move! By the way, this is coming from someone who lived in Jackson for 25 years....never had a ticket or verbal warnings.

I am a born & raised local in Jackson Hole. I still live here. The police in our town do their jobs, but they are harder on locals than tourists. That's just comming from someone who knows anyone & everyone who's lived here for well over 35 years. The police sometimes have been well known for getting a little bored & targeting people for small infractions & I've even had a phone operator snap at me,"...well how do you know she's drunk?", when I called in a drunk driver for almost hitting me and my passengers in the winter potentially causing a huge accident. On the other hand, I call in drunk drivers & take pride in our police for hunting them down. I also take personal responsibility for the one or two verbal warnings I have received in my life so far. In the state of Wyoming a pause is not a stop, that's exactly what I was warned not to do. Also, if you see the speed limit sign, it IS legal however, to go ahead & speed up to that mph. So speed trap or no, if you can reasonably see the speed limit sign, you may go that speed for the most part.
