State Highway 20 near West of Terrapin Ridge

Elizabeth, IllinoisSep 08, 20061 Comments

The trap is east of Elizabeth where the town has relocated (illegally?) its city limits sign and placed a 30-mph sign before the village is even visible. The trap is at the bottom of the hillwest of Terrapin Ridge. The village of Elizabeth issued more that 500 speeding tickets during 2005. Truck drivers and most local people seem to be exempt from this fundraising activity. The speed trap has generated enough revenue to purchase a third squad car. The population of Elizabeth is about 700.

Comments:
The reason for the speed sign that far east of Elizabeth, is because the state screwed up on the engineering of the corner at the top of the hill. The second house on the left, going west, has been hit by several cars and a couple of semis.
