State Highway 28 near DuFief Drive

Gaithersburg, MarylandJun 27, 20072 Comments

The cops are on all sides of this intersection all the time, often in the afternoons against traffic (heading east) or mid-day. Also, they are often there on weekends, given the weather conditions. The speed limit is an absurdly low 40 MPH, where it could easily be 50+ on that stretch for a few miles in each direction. There is an extremely long sight distance, so the cops will likely see you way before you see them. People driving past slow down there out of habit now, including myself, simply out of fear of a speed trap.

Comments:
If you lived by that street and had chrildren you would understand why the speed limit is lower. Slow down what is the rush, so you can get to the next light?

Uh, there is no rush, there is simply the fact that people drive a reasonable speed for the conditions...there is no point posting limits below the prevailing traffic speed. 40 mph is too slow for a major arterial; its an appropriate residential collector/minor arterial 2 lane speed limit.
