Gaithersburg, Maryland Speed Traps
899 Clopper RD, Gaithersburg MD
There are now two speed traps, almost at the same point on each side of the road, just before reaching the intersection with Firstfield RD. The speedtraps are white tall boxes that are difficult to spot. Recommend drivers to avoid accelerating to try to catch the green light at Firstfield, as it is very difficult to decelerate on time and have time to pass that intersection at low speed.
500 Block S Frederick Ave, Gaithersburg MD
This speed trap is deceiving because it occurs on a 6 lane road and entails only a short stretch of road where the speed drops to 35 mph from the 45 mph elsewhere on this road. Furthermore, signage is poor. There are no dangerous intersections. This is a clear case of teh state of MD abusing its right to collect revenue under the pretext of “public safety”.
S. Frederick Ave. 100 block
Six lane road that is 35-45 mph elsewhere in county. Here, the speed limit drops to 30 and there is a speed camera. There is inadequate signs indicating that the speed limit is so low.
