State Highway 79 near State Highway 79

Foley, MissouriMay 25, 20073 Comments

A police officer is often in front of the local store or tucked just off of the highway on one of the two streets that intersect the highway. He has no tolerance for anything over the posted speed.

There are definitely a speed traps in Foley, Missouri. As described, this is a very small town with one speed (30 miles per hour). Unfortunately this looked at a revenue resource by this city and fraud is practiced here. Using a cruise control set at 30 mph did not do me any good. It was difficult to set at this low a speed, but I accomplished and an after I passed the first south 60 mph sign I began to accelerate to 45 mph. Two-thirds of the way to the second 60 mph sign I saw flashing lights start and was pulled over past the second 60 mph sign. The officer stated I was doing 40 in a 30 and I disputed that and asked to see the radar reading. The office got very upset and refused to allow me to see the radar reading. In court its your word against his without any other means of disputing it you lose. Stay totally away from this town, even when you observe the law you lose.

My daughter and I were going from St. Louis north on highway 79 through Foley. We were behind a pickup truck with Missouri plates and being followed by my grandsons in a car with Missouri plates. All three vehicles were going at about the same speed with safe distances between them. Coming into Foley the was a speed zone ahead sign followed very shortly by a 30 mph sign and a stop sign. My understanding of speed limit sign practice is that there should be .2 mile from the zone ahead sign and the first speed limit sign which should be no lower than 15 mph lower tan the previous speed limit which in this case is 60 mph. We were stopped as was the car my grandsons were in. The pickup truck in front of us was not stopped, could have been a local or setting a trap. My daughter got a ticket for going 62 in a 30 zone which is definitely not true. Her car has Louisiana plates so there was little likelihood she would appeal and make a court appearance. Yeah, speed trap

Today, I thought was going to be a good day for a change. Nice weather, so my wife and I decide to go to Louisiana ,MO on a road trip to see some possible house's for my soon to be retirement. As everyone here states Foley is definitely a speed trap. Sad that they stoup so low, from 60 to 30 in short period of time. The $187.00 ticket will morph in $400 to $500 because of the legal fee's. Our government at it's worst...Very Very Sad indeed.
