State Highway 90 Imperial Hwy near Kraemer Boulevard

Brea, CaliforniaJan 19, 20040 Comments

Multiple speed limit changes in this short stretch, and the signs are smaller than the speed limit signs on the rest of the highway. If you’re not paying attention to them you’re bound to be caught. Westbound: After traveling at 50 MPH for a while, once you pass Kraemer the speed limit will drop to 45. After Placentia/Castlegate the speed limit abruptly drops to a ridiculous 35. Once you pass the 57 the speed limit will pick back up to 40 only for it to drop again to 35 a few blocks later upon entering Downtown Brea. It stays at 35 until you leave the few blocks they consider "downtown" where it picks back up to 45. Eastbound: After traveling for a while at 45 MPH the speed limit drops to an unrealistically low 35 upon entering downtown Brea. Once you leave the downtown area the limit remains at 35 (remember, there’s a brief 40 zone going the other way) until you cross over the 57 and pass Associated. The speed limit picks up to 45 at that point (other side is 35) until you get to Kraemer. Brea and CHP units frequent this stretch. The nature of the environment and the road itself remains unchanged as you traverse through Brea, making these multiple speed limit fluctuations appear suspicious. CHP uses Ka-band radar and Brea uses lidar for speed enforcement.
