There is a pretty large apron in the median between north- and south-bound lanes of traffic on Route 29, south of the Route 175 exit. Speed limit is 55 mph. Southbound traffic is especially vulnerable. If I drive through that area late at night (10 PM to 2 AM), I’d bet there is a 30-40% chance at least one Howard County police car will be sitting there. I have seen as many as FOUR cars parked there, always with their lights off, usually parked parallel to the traffic flow, facing back up toward the top of the hill north of the trap. There is no roadside lighting, making them utterly invisible until the last few seconds. I always assume they are there late at night.
