State Route 278 near Interstate 95

Hardeeville, South CarolinaNov 12, 20062 Comments

When nearing the interstate 95 the speed limit changes from 60 mph to 45 mph. If your speed has not decreased when you pass the 45 mph sign be prepared to pay $180.

Comments:
I do not understand how anyone could say this isnt a speed trap. I hit it on Monday coming back from Paris Island. The speed limit changes a couple hundred yards before the overpass. Anyone focused on getting onto I-95 will miss the speed limit signs. I've driven the stretch once every 3-weeks for the past year and didn't realize that the speed limit changes until this week when I was stopped by a very polite trooper. Ex-USMC, but steadfast in his new "career". Stated - normally no-one will mess with you if you at least look like you are trying to slow down. If you don't see the signs, they will mess with you... and most people wont see those signs.

If you've driven that stretch "once every 3-weeks for the past year" then you should've noticed the sign which incidentally is more than 200 yards before the actual 45 mph sign. Everyone else seems to take notice with no problem.
