Town of Waldo

Waldo, FloridaJun 24, 20104 Comments

As an Officer in a neighboring town I know that they have a problem and if they did not agressively act they would have people hit by cars all the time. However, I was doing about 5mph over the limit and the officer said I was doing 15 mph over the limit. I told him who I was and that I was not going that fast. (my speedo had been checked in a local establishment) He let me go. I would have fought that citation like no one had ever fought before. This was several, at least 14 yrs ago, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I always slow to at least 5mph below the limit. I don’t need the cost of fighting the citation.

Comments:
The entire Waldo area on 301 south of Starke is a speed trap! The "Town of Waldo" is soley in business for the purpose of collecting fines from anyone travelling more than 3 mph over the "posted limit." I had the misfortune in 1991 of getting 2 speeding tickets on the same day. (COMING & GOING) Each was for 14 mph over the "posted limit" and cost me $135 each. The bummer was that the same angry, hyper-ventillating, sawed-off, r^+ ba$+^rd, female cop with a chip on her shoulder stopped me both times. Whatever you do, don't argue because they won't listen and you won't win. The truly bad part was they did not process payment of my fines properly. It screwed my insurance and driver license for 4 years before I finally got it straightened out with Florida DMV.

going thru Waldo Christmas of 2009...we were stopped going into Waldo by an unmarked car...actually we were lost...while we were trying to figure out where we were.... we seen this white car and my husband had slowed down because we were trying to figure out what was going on ..the car was parked almost derectly accrossed from the sign He said he had clocked us doing 43 when we where at the curve in the road further down from that sign ...the speed limit at that point was 45 ...seeing that we weren't sure where we were at ....I did go back and check at a later date...I know this was not a legally reported ticket...I have to add this comment many many years ago I lived in a town where the cop got to big for his britches and gave to many tickets and the local hoodlums caught him out on a back road and beat the living tar out of him ...they never did find the perpetraiters.....we did have the syndicate in the area ...as I look back at it... he may have pulled the wrong person over ...(Waldo) by the way this little episode costs us $500....so watch it when you go thru Waldo

Another comment: Coming into Gainesville, Fl on 222..... before they did all the new road construction there was a speed sign that sat behind another sign witch was very hard to see ..my husband had said to me ocassionly the speed limit was 45 in that area..... and at that time I had said to him yes I know ...but I never see the the sign....Many people speed in this area ..as time went by, they had a speed trap set up there on a Sunday and I got caught almost immediately after I passed it and when he issued me the ticket he made sure I new it could cost me $500 if I fought it and lost...when I went to traffic school I talked to the teacher about it..... as I was about to leave he told me I should have fought It ...but I was afraid to because the ticket was $200 verses the $500 the officer warned me about....I do beleive he knew I probablly could have won this and that would have been less money for Gainesville
