US 70 west of Sawyer to Hugo Lake access road.

Sawyer, OklahomaApr 11, 20111 Comments

The road from US 70 into the Hugo Lake park area has been annexed by Sawyer. Sawyer police love to set up road blocks to check seat belts usage, driver’s license, and auto registration/title. They also set up speed traps near the US 70 exit. They love to pick on out-of-state vehicles. Please, Please watch and heed all speed signs.

Comments:
SH147 to E2040 (Virgil Point) - Sawyer also annexed this section and patrols SH147. Sawyer is not a speed trap nor does the town control the speed limit signs on SH147 or US70. These speeds are controlled by the ODOT. Sawyer police have been asked by ODOT and the Mayor to aggressively patrol these roads due to the high volumn of traffic, 5,000 - 8,000 vehicles daily and the high number of motor vehicle accidents and drunk drivers on these two roads. US70 is lite up with construction signs and flashing lights. If you do not pay attention and slow down for the construction workers, you deserve a speeding ticket. The highway patrol also works these roads. I have seen Sawyer officers on a traffic stop as early as 4am. I drive through Sawyer daily and almost always get passed by a speeder. If you are traveling 10 or more, you will get stopped. I have been warned twice and no tickets, but both times I was just not paying attention.
