US 89 skirts this little mountain town, but the speed limit drops anyway. Parts of this stretch of US 89 are very steep, so travelers heading downhill (south) should be especially careful. This has been a notorious speed trap for many years, with lots of recreational and tourist traffic to target. I was ticketed early one Sunday morning by a police officer accompanied by his 2 small children. He unapologetically explained that they were going to church right after finishing my citation!
