US Highway 12/ Rand Road near State Highway 53 to lake cook Rd.

Palatine, IllinoisAug 12, 20081 Comments

From Lake Cook Road to Route 53, Rand Road travels through Palatine with a speed limit of 35.In Kildeer to the north and Arlington Heights to the south, Rand Road has a speed limit of 45. Rand road and its surroundings are the same through Palatine as in Kildeer Arlington Heights. This is Palatine’s primary speed trap. Many people don’t realize the drop in the speed limit or they think they are going as fast as they really are going. If it were’nt for my radar/laser detector, I would have gotten a ticket several times for going 45 to 55 in a 35. Between new Hicks Road and route 68(Dundee Road) is the primary spot for Palatine cops to watch traffic. There are two small hills you go over and Old Hicks Road is in the middle. They sit in businesses driveways, or even sometimes right in the middle turn lane just as you come over the hill. They might be on top of the far hill and their laser gun can get you right as you come over the first hill. They also frequently sit in the townhome parking lots between 53 and Dundee Road. They might if their bored or its a slow day ticket you for going 41 to 45; but its usually 45+ that they ticket you for. Many main roads that go throuhg Palatine are underposted by 5 to 10 MPH lower than what traffic moves at and what is safe, but Rand Road is the worst. If you go more than 10 MPH over the speed limit in Palatine, you have a 90% chance of getting ticketed.

Comments:
You really have to watch your speed here in off hours, i.e. Early morning before rush hour. They have nothing else to do and they're looking for left over drunks. You don't realize it goes down to 35mph till it's to late. BARNEY doesn't care that I'm just trying to get my kids to the airport!!!!!!!
