New section of 4 lane just before the Mississippi,,Piperton City Police are on the job. Its a 55mph Speed Limit. Most of the Hwy 72 4 lane is 65.

Comments:
Speed Limits are designed by traffic engineers based on the computed safe speed a vehicle can traverse a roadway safely. It does not mean you cant exceed the posted limit safely. The question arrises as to the why this particular part of HWY 72 has become a favorite place for Pimperton Police to sit. You come out of Mississippi at 65 mph are reduced to 55MPH immedately upon entering Tennesse then speed drops to 50 mph as you go through construction area were no construction is occurring. Immedately after leaving the construction, Speed Limit goes to 55MPH and anyone not familar with this strech of road would think the speed would be increasing to 65MPH as it did in Mississippi. This one area of HWY 72 is a state HWY but City of Pimperton Police know that it is a large revenue maker. This is a Speed Trap and the State Attorney General needs to investigate. The police have actually worn out the grass in the median from stationing themselves at this location. As you come over the hill on 72 North they sit down in a hole on the other side you don't see them. There is no reason the Speed Limit should be reduced in this one particular spot. I was issued a citation at this location the officer asked if I knew how fast I was going and I really did not know so he stated he clocked me at **Mph. I never got to see the radar lock. I was just given a ticket. How can you argue! The problem I have is why do they drop, increase and drop the speeds so quickley. It would be intresting to see the statistics of revenue collected from this one spot. This is a money maker for City of Piperton. It is a SPEED TRAP. BEWARE! Retired Police Officer

I received a ticket at the same location a few weeks ago when traveling from out of state on business. I had been driving on HWY 72 for over 150 miles through 2 states (Alabama & Mississippi) where the speed limit was 65. The speed trap is just as the Retired Police Officer described in his post above. Why is it safe to travel at 65 for two states but not safe for TN or the city of Piperton? I guess the city needs the revenue for than MS or AL. Be careful here... I am sure I am not the first and and quite certain I will not be the last.
