US Highway 80 Westbound near US Highway 80
I am from Alabama and on June 29, 2008 at 1:00 PM I was driving westbound on US Hwy 80 entering Uniontown from a well marked 65 MPH zone to a well marked 55 MPH zone. I always use cruise control under the speed limit and I am a 30 year ticket free driver. I slowed down upon approaching the 55 MPH sign to well below 55. After a minute or two I was pulled over and informed by the officer I had been driving 70 MPH in a 55. I explained that was impossible as I had been paying strict attention to my speed while entering Uniontown. He laughed and gave me a ticket for 69 in a 55. I have a witness to verify my speed sitting right beside me in the car, my father, an 86 year old WW Two Vet. I am going to the Alabama State Attorneys General with my complaint. I called Uniontown and was told the ticket will be $183.00, "please send a money order"! The lady at the courthouse did not know how to spell the Judge’s name. I will only pay this ticket per instruction from Al Attny Gen. Troy King’s office. After reading these complaints and meeting two more innocent victims (they are both from Louisiana), I can promise you I am not going away. I only wish I had the contact info for all these other (victims) folks.
