State Highway 6 near Exit from Southbound Highway 6 to Hwy 40

College Station, TexasSep 04, 20070 Comments

Coming off of Hwy 6 at the crest of a hill, you will generally be exiting at about 70 mph, the Hwy 6 speed limit. By the end of the exit ramp where you join the access road with a speed limit of 55 mph, you are within 300 yards of an intersection where motorcycle police are known to position themselves looking for those who are not at 55 mph by the time they hit the access road.

Brazos County Constables constantly work south State Highway 6 as part of the States STEP program. Constables work this stretch of road from the Navasota River to to College Station every day of the week, and hardly run traffic on any other highway in the county.

Munson Avenue near Harvey Road

College Station, TexasJul 20, 20070 Comments

Coming from Harvey Rd after the stop sign it drops immediately down to 25mph. Always a motorbike cop sitting and hiding. It’s a school zone so make sure you are at 25mph or less or you are in trouble!

Southwest Parkway near Langford Street

College Station, TexasFeb 26, 20070 Comments

Just before and just after school hours, the area of Southwest Parkway next to South Knoll Elementary school is heavily policed. It’s regularly 35 mph at all other times, but 20 mph during the school zone hours. The problem is that there is a stop sign in the middle of this school zone, and I’ve seen lots of people going 20 mph who stop at the stop sign, and then pull away going 35 mph, completely forgetting that they’re still in the school zone. Which is what the cops are counting on. There is an officer who will sit a little ways down Lawyer St, and another who will sit at Laura Ln. Both are far enough back that you can’t see them right away, and they’re usually on motorcycles.
