Live Oak, Texas Speed Traps
Kitty Hawk Road near Topperwein Road
Converse Cops will set up in the parking lot of Bill Miller’s or Walgreens at night. Live Oak cops will set up in the parking lot of the church at anytime. The speed limit is 30-35 mph, but it is very easy to go faster since traffic is not heavy in this area and there are few distractions. Beware!
O’ Conner RD between I-35 and Nacogdoches
They sit waiting in the Ram Jack Parkinglot after hours. Once you come over the bridge which has a moderate incline they get you. It’s kind of easy to get caught there cause once you’re over the hill you see them and it’s too late esspecially once you get past the side rail type thing. Slow down on your way up then peek a glimps, it’s to your right.
I-35 north and south between Loop 1604 and O’Conner Rd.
On the Northbound side, just passed the Toepperwien Rd. overpass, Live Oak cops will park on the inside median using the outside curve of the concrete highway divider to hide the approach to his vehicle. This median is about 1 foot wider than the width of a police cruiser and seems a very dangerous place to stop. On the southbound side, Live Oak cops will hide well up the entrance ramp from Toepperwein Rd. coming on to I-35. They will shoot from behind after you have passed under Toepperwien Rd. One interesting note: This portion of I-35 is actually in San Antonio and not part of the Live Oak munincipality. (I assume San Antonio has given thier police force permission to operate on this portion of I-35) Toepperwein Rd. is a main artery to enter Live Oak from San Antonio. I have seen this excessive enforcement increase drasticaly after the city of Selma calmed down thier prohibitive enforcement on I-35 once Retama Park was built (just north of Loop 1604). This stretch of I-35 is 6 lanes wide (8 if you include the ramp lanes) but has a speed limit of 60 MPH. The speed limit on I-35 is higher outside this area in both directions. The speed limit is posted on a sign the same size as one finds in suburban housing areas. If there is truck traffic in the slow lane, it is quite easy to miss this sign.
