Virginia Beach, Virginia Speed Traps
Independence Blvd. Heading North just pass Hindsdale but prior to Jericho.
As you travel pass Hindsdale heading North on Independence Blvd. Virginia Beach police will position their cars inside the center median to your left (facing on-coming traffic). They position themselves just South of the Rally’s / Shell Gas Station. The time of enforcement is between 2:00 am and just prior to 5:30 am. The speed posted is 45 mph, but unfortunately this stretch of road is so long between both lights that if your not paying attention you could easily reach 55. I have no problem pulling over drivers who drive in those excessive ranges. But Virginia Beach police can also be unforgiving for 2-3 over.
Kempsville Rd. (from Indian River Rd. to Chesapeake Border)
The cops like import cars.
Independence Blvd between Pembroke Blvd and Jeanne Street.
There are 2 main spots a cop car sits at along Independence Blvd. 1) In the median between Pembroke Blvd and N. Hessian Road with their lights off at all times. 2) In the median between Jericho Road and Jeanne Street with their lights off at all times. Sometimes, cop cars sit in the Best Buy parking lot on Independence. It’s directly beside Interstate 264. Usually I’ve noticed that the cop cars are in these spots after 10pm. The speed is 45 mph on all of those stretches of Independence Blvd.
Witchduck Road between Aragona Blvd and Virginia Beach Blvd
There are at least 3 places along Witchduck that cops sit at. The first one I’m not quite sure of. 1) The Rosewood Cemetary entrance. I’m almost positive I saw a cop car there without it’s lights on. 2) The intersection of Witchduck and Kellam Road. There’s a business directly across the street from the Rosewood-Kellum Funeral home. A cop car without it’s lights on sits in that businesses parking lot. 3) The intersection of Witchduck Road and Witchduck Court. There is a white church there. I think it’s called the Aragona Church of Christ or something like that but anyways they have a huge parking lot that cops love to sit in w/all their lights out. Going west, Witchduck Road curves slightly at that point, and the street is lined w/trees and bushes. The church parking lot is at the end of the curve. I saw all of their traps after 10 P.M. I believe the 1st & 3rd spots listed do not have parking lot lights, so you won’t see the cops until you are extremely close to them. All of Witchduck Road’s speed limit is 35 mph. I have seen the cops during PM rush hour, but not as often as late nights after 10.
Shore Drive into Atlantic Ave.
Speed drops from 55 to 20 over a quarter mile leading to a stop light. You must brake to reduce speed, letting the car slow won’t cut it. You won’t even see the cop car from where it sits, waiting to welcome the next tourist.
