Benson Road near going into Renton

Kent, WashingtonFeb 05, 20040 Comments

Cops frequent this area of Benson that is headed into Renton. The speen limit is posted 45mph shortly after you pass Petrovitski and the Old Benson Rd. then abruptly turns into a 35mph zone. It’s easy to miss since this part of Benson (along with the rest) is a wide open 4 lane road. The cops are far enough off Benson on a residential street so that you will never see them till you have pasted them. Sometimes you can tell they are there when all the traffic in front of you is going slow and/or all the traffic coming out of Renton is going slow. Don’t speed ahead of them! There’s probably a good reason why they are going under the speed limit!

116th Ave SE / SE 274th / S 277th

Heading south on 116th Ave towards the intersection of S 277th and Auburn Way/83rd Ave (after crossing Kent-Kangley), there is often a Kent PD officer on a bike or car trying to catch people speeding down the steep hill. Bike cop hides in small pull-off after 108th Ave merges onto 116th.

I have also witnessed cop car parked to the side of the merge area for the 108th Ave onramp – targetting cars as they pass the onramp. Since the speed changes from 40 to 50 right about there, I suspect they are trapping cars that are adjusting to the speed increase too early.

Also, in same area in opposite direction, after top of hill, cop car likes to hide next to cul-de-sac entrance fence to catch people speeding up after getting to the top of the hill.

Either just as the crest the top of the hill heading towards I-5. There is a sign at the top that the speed changes from 45 to 35. A thousand feet away (approx) the speed is 35. Also on weekends they sit in on the side roads in that area and clock you speed up and down the hill in the earlier morning. They have also een known to sit there in the evenings.

James Hill and East Hill In General

Kent, WashingtonJul 24, 20020 Comments

Going down James hill from Benson the speed limit going down the very steep grade hill is 35mph, and is obviously a speed trap because people always get pulled over by cops hiding in cross-streets near the bottom of the hill.

Nourthbound 64th Ave. South between 212th St. and 228th St.

Kent, WashingtonJul 22, 20020 Comments

This is a two lane each direction road with minimal traffic and driveways coming from the east side. Posted limit is 35, which is weird when you consider Meeker just around the corner is 40 mph limit with narrower streets and more traffic. Officers usually sit with radar guns behind signs or trees midway through the stretch between 228th and 212th.
