Benwood, West Virginia Speed Traps

The speed trap is on WV State Route 2, aka US 250, in Benwood. Police will hide off of road in area high with weeds watching for those slighly going over the speed limit on a down hill grade. Watch this town that is just north of McMechen, another speed trap.

Local patrol cars will sit northbound at the abandon exit ramp to the Bellaire bridge, either at the top, next to the hillside weeds or on the approach ramp to the highway from the bridge,half way down the ramp in the shadows. Heading south, they will sit at the base of the 4th street exit ramp, back in a dug-out space within the tall weeds.You can’t see them untill you are right in front of them. The highway speed limit is 55, and both of these locations are on a slight downhill grade where you will pick up a little extra speed. Out-of-state drivers get nailed the most,while locals get a break. Now i’m a local, but one for all and all for being treated fair!
