Route 19

The speed limit drops from 65 to 50 just as you come over the top of a hill entering tiny Fayetteville (which is just before Summersville-an even bigger speed trap). Officer will be moving in a south bound lane and pick you up – if you have no front license plate (ergo out of town sucker) and exceeding 50mph. Try to talk the officer out of points on your license. The fines are steeper than Summersville’s.

ROUTE 16

Leaving Fayetteville heading North on Rt 16 the speed limit changes to 55 mph (at Wollard St.), from 40 mph. City police will ticket you if over 40 mph even a few feet from the 55 mph sign. Just because the sign is in "spitting" distance, do not go a single mph over 40. The town limit ends where the 50 mph sign begins and is on the bottom of a hill. It is easy to pick up speed in the hill so be very carefull. The city police stay employeed with these speed traps. I called and talked with the DMV and they too are very aware of this speed trap.
