Portage, Wisconsin Speed Traps
There were several police chase cars and a handful of officers in shorts and tshirts with laser guns shooting the northbound traffic on I-90. I passed the location around 10:00 am and they were still at it mid-afternoon when I drove past again. Each time, three to four vehicles were pulled over, and presumably the drivers were given tickets.
They sit at Rusch Elementary by the Bed and Breakfast. Speed limit is 25. Be careful these guys love to pull people over. The police tend to be there at any given time throughout the day.
A four lane interstate highway listed in AAA quick trip books as 65 mph. Known as a speed trap. Posted at 45 mph. (Portage – Columbia County)
I used to work as a reporter in Portage. Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies say they field a lot of complaints from businesses and residents in the area, but I can’t see how or who from…there’s hardly anything out there. The speed limit drops to 45 three miles prior to entering the city proper, and much of that area is four lane highway. It’s a ridiculous speed limit, and they enforce it regularly.
I’ve been zinged there myself.
The cops sit in the parking lot behind the shut down bp and laser people coming over the bridge. There is a hill there so the cops can’t be seen. SLOW down on the bridge to the stop light and you will be fine. You can see them if you are coming off 39!
