US HWY 281 & FM 88   Progreso, Texas

At this intersection, the speed limit is 60 mph on US Hwy 281 (otherwise known as Military Highway), but the yellow caution light at the intersection is an immediate warning sign to slow down at least 10 mph, according to the officer who was parked ahead of the intersection and waiting for potential speeding ticket victims like me, although there is no posted reduced speed sign to 55 mph and then to 50 mph until about two miles past the intersection. As a frequent driver through this intersection, I see Progresso squad cars traveling slowly or parked there, especially at nights, together with a sherrif's deputy unit or a Border Patrol, anticipating a good hefty fine of an average of 100 dollars per offense, plus court fees of 88 dollars. And watch out if police claims and cites you if your vehicle also has "defective equipment", like a burned bulb or a worn tire tread. It's like money in their eyes.

FM 1015 near US Highway 281   Progreso, Texas

The last half mile before you get to US Hwy 281 over by where the police station is located (police station is not announced and is a very small unnoticable building) there is usually a police car parked on a side street behind a big tree. The thing about this is that the road goes very quickly from being 50 mph to 30 mph and there is no reduced speed ahead sign only a 30 mph sign that is easy to miss. When I was stopped I really don't think I was going over 30 mph but the officer said he noticed me going above the speed limit when I passed a little white car which I never saw and he said the car was in the left lane and I was in the right lane (slow lane) and then he followed me (he said but I never saw him until the lights came on all of a sudden) for a 1/4 mile and that I was doing @ 40 mph. Suffice it to say that I would have fought this ticket if I had had the time to return but I didn't so they fined me $153 plus $25 to not have it show on my driving record. FM 1015 is the road that leads to Mexico and I think they know many of us will not return to fight the ticket so they take advantage of the situation. Be careful when driving through Progreso, Texas.

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
