Gilmer Ferry Rd, Downtown Ball Ground   Ball Ground, Georgia

Ball ground is a very small town, located in a small valley. The road going in through the "main street" of downtown is downhill both ways, with train tracks at the bottom. The speed limit is 25 mph, and the local PD sits and waits on a side street. The Ball Ground PD has only four cars, one officer on duty at a time each shift, and a car for the chief. These officers are ruthless and will follow you as far as possible waiting for you to screw up. At night, the officers sit along side the road in the dark on old hwy 5 (45mph limit), or will hang out at the gas station at exit 24 off ramp from 575.

Exits 24 and 27 on Hwy 575, North and South   Ball Ground, Georgia

The State Troopers sit on top of the bridges at these locations at spot the cars with the radar guns. As the speeders pass underneath the bridge, the troopers come down the on ramps in pursuit. From the road level, the patrol cars cannot be seen, except for a small portion of their roof. If you don't know what to look for, you get caught. The best defense (other than not speeding) is once you know that you've been caught, stop under the bridge and wait for the patrol car to enter the hwy. By the time he realizes that he lost you, you will be more than a half mile behind him. The speed limit here is 70 mph.

Yellow Creek Road near bridge   Ball Ground, Georgia

Cherokee County Sheriff will park in the new high dollar subdivision entrance and use radar on the cars traveling towards HWY 53. They hit you just as you are coming around a curve onto the bridge.
