Leawood, Kansas Speed Traps
128th & Roe
Officer sitting in large, ornate subdivision entryway in a couple of block area where the speed drops from 45 to 35 then right back to 45. Officer gave excuse that it went down to 35 b/c there wasn’t a median dividing the sets of lanes going each way so it’s a “safety issue.” Right. Because another block north when speeds resume at 45, there is no median until you get up to a major intersection with stop lights and numerous stores & restaurants on all sides. If safety was truly the issue, the speed would have been 35 there. 128th and Roe is just a nice couple of blocks where they game the speed limit to 35 so they can write a bunch of tickets & generate some easy money. That Does nothing to engender trust or respect for law enforcement.
Roe and 124th Street
Southbound Roe drops from 45 mph to 35 mph at top of small hill after crossing Indian Creek. Radar car sits on 124th Street, east side of Roe waiting for cars that don’t drop speed to 35 mph.
State Line, north of 95th, across from Rockhurst
They sit in a private driveway, on motorcycles, and shoot southbound traffic with a laser. It’s a steep hill down and right back up, so they catch people at the bottom where they’re going a little faster. I’ve seen them for years, but still got caught; 49 in a 35, $115. No warning, just a ticket.
On 151st just east of the 151st and Mission intersection
The cops back their motorcycles or cars up into a utility drive on the north side of the road and hide behind the bushes to radar west bound traffic. The speed limit is 35 mph and is enforced tightly.
I-435 East & Westbound Between State Line & Nall
Leawood cops always love to tag in this area. They use marked Crown Vic’s, Motorcycle cops, and also a black unmarked Ford Explorer. Be wary especially where the interstate curves between State Line & Roe.
