Harwood Heights, Illinois Speed Traps
Intersection of Lawrence and Harlem (Turn right from South)
The red light camera took my picture even though I did nothing wrong as I approached the intersection. According to the judge, the “No Turn On Red” sign was put up in January (My violation was in April). From the driver’s position, when stopped at the white line, you cannot see the sign. It is blocked by the signal light pole. There are no other signs at the intersection with “No Turn On Red”
This is entrapment, and Harwood Heights is eating it up. I am willing to bet that they are catching HUNDREDS of drivers a day with this. Even though I said I could not see the sign, the judge ignored me, and said I had to pay the $100 fine.
Foster Avenue
The Harwood Heights PD seat on the south side of Foster, sometimes on a side street shooting cross traffic, between Canfield and Oketo. They like to seat between parked cars or at the end of a string of parked cars.
Gunnison Avenue near Rutherford Avenue
Officer sits in parking lot of Bethany Baptist church and uses radar gun to clock cars driving on Gunnison.
Harlem Avenue near McDonalds
Guy sits in McD’s parking lot clocking people coming from Foster. He’ll see you before you see him. Slow down before passing McDonald’s!
Oak Park Avenue near Forest Preserve Drive
Be Careful when you go down Oak Park Avenue right past Forest Preserve Drive in Harwood Heights right before the school. You cannot see the speed limit or the school signs until you are on top of them due to the trees and bushes that cover the signs.
