Maroa, Illinois Speed Traps
Route 51 North of Washington Street
Police in unmarked dark and white cars. Middle median 1 mile south of Washington Street. Avoid going through Maroa at night on 51 when no traffic (witnesses). People who know town is a speed trap and drive lower than the limit are pulled over for driving too slow…there is no minimum limit and none posted. They also use a tactic of shining their lights and pulling in behind you in left lane and tracking your vehicle about drivers side rear tire (just over left shoulder) to get your attention off the road so that your car may swerve or not drive in a straight line. Will do this all way thru town and then pull you over south of town past Caseys. Will claim speed violation or that you were "swerving" or both.
Extremely aggressive attitude by the young blonde cop. They have GPS and video/DVR and are not ashamed to falsify your speed or the reason they pulled you over. Their response is "Take it up with a judge."

The Maroa Police car patrols the RT 51 bypass that runs on the West side of town. The town incorporated the bypass for the specific reason of getting the revenue generated by tickets, where before it belonged to the state. The limit is 55 MPH and no leniency is given.
