Monterey, Tennessee Speed Traps
Highway 70, 1/4 east of I-40 overpass at exit 301
west on highway 70N (Crossville highway) coming over and down a hill that is posted 45 mph, you are actually in the City limits of Monterey and they will pull you for being over 30 mph although it is not posted going west. $125 city fine.
State Highway 62 near High school on the right, middle shcool on the left
The area of highway to the east of the "schools" just doesn’t appear to be one that justifies a 30 mile per hr. limit, and is difficult to adhere to, especially having just left the interstate. Not unfair, just hard to adhere to.
State Highway 62 near Interstate 40
30 mph speed limit, even on outskirts of town up to the sign that begins 55mph on the state highway. Also, no turn on red strictly enforced. Ticket plus court cost is $150.
State Highway 62 near Old Walton Road
AS you round the curve heading in the west bound lane, there is a sign that reads reduced speed ahead. The limit goes from 55 to 35 and definately not enough time to slow down without excessive pedal force.
Interstate 40 near Mile Marker 290-310
Between Cookeville and Crossville in the general vicinity of Monterey there is almost always State Patrol enforcement on the hill ascending towards Crossville. The speed limit drops there, but they seem to be mostly looking for flagrant speeders and fast semis.
