Glendale, Arizona Speed Traps
59th Avenue near From Glendale Avenue to Union Hills Avenue
This is one of the heaviest enforced areas in the West Valley. Night, Day, Weekday, weekends it does not matter. Some of the heavier areas is around Glendale Community College, ASU West and the International School of Business Management. Most of the enforcement seems to occur late evening and early weekend mornings when traffic is light. Late evening is they sit in the College turn ins as well as the turn in’s to a lot of the strip malls that are along 59th avenue. They do like to focus from Olive Avenue to Peoria Avenue. Many of the areas along 59th are easy hiding place’s due to apartment complex’s having entrance walls as well as bush’s and tree’s. The Officers seem to like dusk low light and hard to see. Mostly you will see Motorcycle Officers running this and at times you will see a Car assisting.
Grand Avenue Expressway near Northern & Grand Ave Avenue
One motorcycle and 5 police cars. Grand Ave is a 4 lane connecting Phoenix and Glendale and the speed limit varies from 45 miles per hour or less. There is very little traffic on this road and plently of places for the police to hide. They will put a small blurb in the paper that they will be conducting survellence in the area but Grand Ave is a long road with little traffic and unusually low set speeds. The road look like a freeway with little traffic so it is human nature to drive a little faster.
61st Avenue near Happy Valley Road
South of Happy Valley Rd. on 61st Ave.
The posted limit is 25. There are no houses at this road just side street access to residential. Average traffic flow moves about 35-40. I was ticketed at 32MPH in the 25MPH zone.
Union Hills Drive near 51st Avenue
It is very common to see a police officer sitting on Union Hills Drive between 51st Avenue and 59th Avenue. The posted speed limit changes from 45 down to 40mph, and many people still cruising along at 50 mph+, do not pay attention to the change, and WHAM! they get a speeding ticket. I have seen cops sitting there in the morning, during the evening rush hour, in the middle of the day…just about any time except late at night.
Glendale Avenue Between El Mirage and Loop 101 Freeway
Beware of Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department and Glendale Police Patrols in this area. They will set up infrequently, and for a short period of time. The biggest place to watch is by the emissons repair place, east of Glendale Airport, and just before Loop 101. They like to set up on the south side of the highway especially. Everyone loves to speed on this road, so it is a fertile "cherry patch" for any officer who needs to catch up on tickets. Don’t be their next victim.
