Bishop, California Speed Traps
US Highway 395
This 14 mile stretch between Big Pine and Bishop seems to be the most heavily enforced piece of Hwy 395 in the entire state. It’s not unusual to see as many as 5 CHP’s working that area at one time.
State Highway 395
The local CHP loves to give speeding tickets especially to out of town vehicles, a few miles each way from town. Beware of having out of town paper license plates. Bishop is a long way from much of anything else and they know you probably will not come back to fight the unearned speeding ticket.
Hwy 395 between Lone Pine and Bishop
CHP in marked cars seem to patrol this stretch of Hwy 395 very heavily. Several miles of 395 are two lanes in each direction with a wide paved median. CHP cruisers drive in the number one (left) lane and use instant-on Ka band radar to zap oncoming traffic. The paved median makes for a fast u-turn to chase down the "customer."
