Carlsbad, California Speed Traps
Calle Barcelona Street near El Camino Real
Carlsbad PD motorcycle officer parks at opening of Coastline church and zaps speeders heading west downhill on Calle Barcelona just past the La Costa Valley pedestrian walkbridge. Speed limit is 45 and children are present in the morning walking to El Camino Creek Elementary School.
Paseo Del Norte Avenue near Palomar Airport Road
On Paseo Del Norte, just South of Palomar Airport Road. It is a 40mph zone on a steep downhill 5 lane street. Motorcycle officers generally positioned on the West side of the street about 1/4 mile before Palomar Airport (near the old Hadley’s building).
Alga Road near Alicante Drive
Heading west, going downhill from the "top of Alga Road" towards Alicante and El Camino Real, the motorcycle cops sit in the center median among the pine trees, just after the water tower. One radar guns you and passes it on to the others sitting at the light around the curve at Alicante. The boys in blue prefer the morning speed trap to catch the soccer moms driving their kids to school. It’s posted 40 or 45, but down the hill the soccer mom’s Urban Assault Vehicles (SUV’s) roll up to 60 with ease.
State Highway Pacific Coast Highway near Tamarack Ave and Cannon Road Avenue
Local Carlsbad Police will even tell you – this is their haven for speeding tourists. It’s a short stretch between Tamarack Ave and Cannon Road and you’re tempted to speed since all the locals are going slow. Check out the beautiful ocean view, slow down, and pick it back up after Cannon.
El Fuerte Street near Rancho Pancho Street
Motorcycle officer with Carlsbad police sits on the left side of the road as you are going down hill. You will see an unused driveway, s(he) sits there and tags all traffic going downhill. Pulled over the car behind me because I slammed on the brakes and got down to 45MPH, the speed limit on that road.
