Santa Maria, California Speed Traps
I drive through this area a few times a week, traveling south on the 101 away from Santa Maria to the 154. It is hell for speeders – do Not speed here. I always, without fail, see at least 1 or 2 cops and someone pulled over. I travel between 4:30 PM and 6 PM.
The second set of red light cameras has been installed and is fully operational at the intersection of Miller Street and Stowell Road. Do NOT run a red light or you will be caught by the cameras! Ticket is $400+.
highway Patrol sits on side of street waiting for speeders going from 45 zone to 35 zone.
Highway 101 North bound @ SM way and South Bound @ broadway exits the speedlimit drops to 55 for the contruction. Cops love to patrol the area. Fines are doubled in construction zones too! The CHP office in Santa Maria is right off the 101 @ Donovan exit.
Remote area between cities where travelers like to speed. Heavily patroled. Lots of Oak trees and turn outs for CHPs to monitor traffic. Generally see at least one or two tickets getting handed out when I drive through that spot.
