Golden, Colorado Speed Traps

Squad car or motorcycle will sit on the over pass as vehicles come around the corner well above the 55MPH speed limit. Another car pulls down the ramp onto I-70 EB and the speeder is stopped near the runaway truck ramp.

One expects this section of highway to have a speed limit of 55 minimum as it is semi-rural, a highway, and has a pedestrian bridge for those who wish to pass from one fenced upscale (ie. McMansions) neighborhood to another on foot. The speed limit is not adecuately posted as one goes approximately 1/4 mile onto that section of highway before going far enough around the bend to see the speed limit (all the while planning for the upcoming lane merge at the crest of a hill). The limit is much lower than the 55 that it should be. Furthermore, as one is travelling north on 6th Ave. (which leads you to Highway 93 if you go straight), which is more of a highway than an avenue, the speed limit switches constantly back and forth between 45 and 55 mph. It is almost as if it were designed to mislead and collect revenue. I wouldn’t contest tickets in court, I wouldn’t expect anyone to be able to win no matter how meritorious their case and argument. I would take the best plea bargain possible and stay out of the court. Furthermore, I would avoid Golden if possible as their draconian traffic enforcement extends throughout town. Colorado was in the news for having the highest insurance rates because of the highest rates of ticketing. Golden goes farther than many Colorado municipalities.

Watch for cops in any vehicle type, but especially Camaros in the numerous pull-offs in the canyon – particularly after the two lane passing zones.
