Newport, Delaware Speed Traps
Rt 141 north or southbound
On 141 south towards New Castle the Newport police wait in the shadows of an exit ramp or at the top of the hill at the rt 4 exit. Going north as you come down the hill smokey waits for you at the bottom, there’s almost no way to get out of that one if he tags you. Newport cops are notorious for there enforcement of the posted speed limits and the ticket will cost you more than what a state trooper will give you.
James Street, Parallel to DE Rt. 141
This road is deceptive in that it’s two lanes of one-way traffic on each site of the DE 141 expressway. There’s very little traffic, and the ONLY reason the speed limit is 30 MPH is as a revenue source. The town of Newport (along with nearby Elsmere) has long been known as a speed trap, and unless you’re a personal friend of the cop who stops you, you’re not likely to talk your way out of a ticket in this town.
