US Highway 1 near South of Pineda Causeway on US 1

Melbourne, FloridaApr 24, 20060 Comments

South of the Pineda Causeway (HWY 408) on US 1 in the Township of Palm Shores for a distance of about 3 miles to the City of Eau Gallie. The highway is a newly paved 6 lane major highway (Yes, 6 lanes plus turn lanes!) with no schools, and very little commercial or residental development. One side is the Indian River! The logical speed limit would be at least 55 MPH. The area was just reduced to 45 reportely from pressure from the little Township of Palm Shores. I have not received a ticket so this is not sour grapes, but rather I live in the area, travel the road daily and I am concerned that honest people are being ripped off by the Brevard County Sheriff and Melbourne Police Departments. There have been hundreds of tickets given in this area recently. They are using unmarked as well as marked cars cleverly hidden by the overpass and low areas to catch those coming from over the rise. There are usually two patrol cars about 1/2 mile south of the Pineda Causeway (HWY 408) by the boat dealership on the river side.

Ellis Road near Wickham Road

Melbourne, FloridaMar 16, 20061 Comments

This is a semi-industrial road that connects Wickham Rd. and John Rhodes Blvd. It carries a fair amount of traffic, which drops off on weekends. The speed limit is only 35, seemingly slow especially without any traffic. Because of the easy pickin’s, many police stakeouts have been posted there, often on Saturdays, usually about midway between Wickham and Rhodes.

E. Eau Gallie Boulevard near East Side of Eau Gallie Causeway @ Boat Ramp

Melbourne, FloridaMar 16, 20060 Comments

Heading East over the Eau Gallie Causeway (at the boat ramp), during the busy lunch hour, an officer on a motorcycle sits at the boat ramp with radar. Sometimes with an additional cruiser.
