Oviedo, Florida Speed Traps
On highway 419 right or the top of the hill near the canoe ramp there is usually teams of Oviedo police ready to pull you over. The road is designed for 60+ but the speed limit is a snail pace 45 when the police themselves fly by. They use unmarked gray Dodges and white motorcycles so beware of going over 50
Speed drops from 45 on Broadway to 30 on WSB in less than 100 feet. Oviedo cops hide on first driveway on the right and pull over many cars at one time.
This road is just outside the Oviedo city limits, so the trap is manned mainly by Seminole County Sheriff’s Office personnel, however I have seen Oviedo city cops and the Florida Highway Patrol working it. I’ve even seen nearby University of Central Florida Campus Police working the trap. I commute early morning (0545 hrs) and have seen cops already setup and also in the afternoon on the way home. Cops will work it with radar, motorcycles, marked and unmarked cars. Just recently one afternoon I saw 5 FHP cars with radar working Chapman. Be careful and watch the lead-foot.
Chapman Rd has been widened and 4-laned…. now, a straight shot for about a mile and a half. Several times a week police on a motorcycle or in a SUV hide in a driveway or turn lane, watching oncoming drivers. Usually they pick a lone car or the first car in a group.
One officer in the Church parking lot watching for speeders heading northbound on Lockwood, calling ahead to another officer at the entrance of next neighborhood to make the stop.
