Dekalb Avenue near Clifton Road

Atlanta, GeorgiaMay 11, 20041 Comments

City of Atlanta Cops wait on the blind side of the car wash at corner of Dekalb Ave. and Clifton Rd. early in morning before massive amount of cars start pouring in for work rush around 7:30am. Before that time you’re blown off the street by whatever cars are on the road if you don’t go 20 to 30 mph over the posted 35 speed limit. Cops are waiting for early workers to zoom by or get caught in the sudden red light change which doesn’t make sense at 4 or 5 in the am.
That’s how I got caught. I couldn’t stop soon enough for the light. The young honcho must have been real happy to up his ticket quota and obviously was ending his long over night shift because he misspelled my name on the ticket. I made the mistake of pointing that out. He rewrote the ticket spelling my name correctly making it impossible for me to indicate to the traffic judge that this guy was half asleep when he stopped me. I’ve seen Atlanta cops stopping the unlucky few on this street on the weekend days, too, obviously gleefully, upping ticket quotas. One cop looked like he was within days of retirement.
After 7:30am until 9:30am and 4:30 pm until 6:00 pm on work days thousands of cars break the posted speed limit
along Dekalb Aveue from the outskits of Decatur until downtown Atlanta. Outside of those times and when you’re on Dekalb Ave. in Atlanta beware the Atlanta cop making his/her ticket quota.

Interstate 85 South near Shallowford Road

Atlanta, GeorgiaApr 29, 20040 Comments

This trap usually is on Friday evenings starting around 6PM and going until late night. There are several cruisers that sit on the Shallowford entrance ramp so that you only see them in your rear view mirror after it is too late.

Interstate 20 near Mile Marker 65

Atlanta, GeorgiaApr 19, 20040 Comments

Many cops wait here at the point where the speed limit drops from 65mpg to 55mph. They wait right near the switch, and take advantage of the traffic flowing around 70-80mph before they can slow down. There are usually 4 or 5 cops there at a time; so many people get pulled out of the flow. This is definitely a speed trap

Interstate 75 near Interstate 285

GSP on the right side of the roadway after the exit to I-285, before the exit to Windy Hill. He has line of sight around/through the I-285 overpass bridge abutment, but he is hidden about 30′ off the roadway

Interstate 85 North near Interstate 75

Atlanta, GeorgiaDec 29, 20030 Comments

Taking I-85 North exit from the I-85/I-75 fork, there is a long bend to the right after traffic merges in from the I-75 South to I-85 North exit. Where the highway bends back left and straightens, there was a GA DUI Taskforce officer in a marked car parked with lights off in the wide right shoulder. I was clocked at over 1100ft (before I even saw the police car) just as I rounded the turn. Blue lights were on before I even passed the officer. The posted speed limit is 55mph all over the city. Traffic does move much faster on average than that during non-rush hour times; so, watch out later at night.
